Toronto Garbage Strike Day 4 – Um, that’s not what “Honk For Support” means

Hey Balyermom: Do you learn anything by reading the comments below your videos? Are you starting to understand that the public support for this strike is almost non existent? Under the existing contract city workers can claim a nintendo Wii as fitness equipment FOR FREE. I know people who can take a year off with pay based on unused sick days. Is it easy to remain on strike knowing CUPE’s leadership is getting full pay while you are counting on the OT you will book when this is all over?

those are negotiated they are paid through the employer and if you have 5 paid sick days that the company has put payment away for why the fuck shouldnt you get them

in windsor its officially 67& in favor of cupe strikers
and thats only because of 20% unemployment so some people are just pissed because they are off work

The rule is use them or lose them at many companies and people don’t just use them at Christmas because the rest of the world understands how responsibility works. How much mental capacity does it take to understand that?

Lower standard of living??? We’re talking about bankable sick days and pay raises. In a time where no one in the private sector is getting them. Compounded by the fact that these assholes aren’t just picketing, they are blocking people from going where they need to go. Don’t think you’re being treated fair in your job? Look for a new one. Don’t always look at the tax payer to give you more just because you and you Union feel that you are entitled to it.

people should be angry at the real waste…management that routinely steals more than $100,000 per year because of who they know and not what they know. this city is so over-managed it’s the real reason why the city budget is strapped not to mention the ever increasing welfare people the mayor is so concerned with. Maybe he should be concerned for the people who contribute to society and pay taxes.

It’s hard to feel sympathy for a union that harasses the taxpayers when they try to take their garbage to a temporary landfill.

Plus, the way the strikers act most of the time is disgusting. Some strikers have actually crossed the picketing line, wanting to go back to work, but the union simply won’t let them. They blockade the entrance to the offices, which is ILLEGAL anyway.

Second, competition will keep prices low (lower than what they are paying these blood suckers). Moreover, contracting out to private companies will without a doubt improve efficiency and increase productivity. If the city payed for it, it wouldn’t be a private buisness. Same as walmart and McDonalds or any other company, you don’t see the government forking our money to pay for your big mac so they also wouldn’t pay for your garbage if it became privatized.

As I’ve said before, they can contract it out to PRIVATE COMPANIES, just like the city contracts out projects to private construction companies among other things. And yes the city will pay for it with our TAX DOLLARS. And it would cost significantly cheaper as no company would pay their workers 26$/hr to drive a truck around for 8 hours if they want competitive advantage. CUPE is a joke.

Look at these disgusting fuckers. Little do they know, even a monkey is over qualified for their jobs. The Mayor seems oblivious to the fact that these lazy old fat fuckers are causing a lot of grief for the city. And it’s been a month already. Why doesn’t he legislate them back to work or hire the unemployed at a much lower cost. Does the Mayor have no logic or a hint of common sense? What kind of Mayor did we elect? Shame on us!
